The final Wes Anderson/Roald Dahl short is similarly as terrific as the others.
A man (Dev Patel) goes to see Englishman Harry Pope (Benedict Cumberbatch) only to find that Pope is lying completely still because a snake is asleep on his chest. The man and a doctor (Ben Kingsley) try to work out how to save Pope.
The cast of these shorts have been fantastic throughout but this one really shows off their talents. Dev Patel is superb as a narrator, especially in the style of these shorts. Ralph Fiennes gets what is perhaps his best scene as Roald Dahl here but it's Cumberbatch who is the highlight. By its nature, the role here doesn't have a great deal of dialogue but you can nonetheless identify Harry Pope's fear and growing anger as the short progresses.
I think of the Roald Dahl stories chosen for this series of shorts, this is perhaps the best. It's a great scenario that really brings the tension and the ending is surprising but powerful. I thought that it was especially well realised in this short film too.
I hope Wes Anderson is able to get the gang back together to make more of these shorts in the future because they are just wonderful, wonderful things.
